Various activities have been arranged to mark the golden jubilee anniversary of the Fire and Rescue Department. They include the endurance program to test the level of mental and physical capability of the public rescue personnel.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Awang Mohammad Lufti bin Abdullah officiated the start of the event last night. About 50 personnel of the Fire and Rescue Department and its branches from all four districts including female personnel took part in an overnight endurance run.
The 50-kilometers run started at the Bandar Seri Begawan Fire Station, the first and oldest in the country, and concluded at the Fire and Rescue Department Headquarters in Berakas. The participants ran throughout the night along a number of main roads in the capital and passed through ten checkpoints including the Mohammad Bolkiah Mosque in Serusop where they performed the subuh prayers before continuing the run to their final destination. Also present was the Director of Fire and Rescue Services, Awang Yahya bin Haji Abdul Rahman.
