The oil and gas industry in Brunei Darussalam, though small, is seen globally as pushing the frontiers of technology and innovation. The Minister of Energy in the Prime Minister's Office made the remarks at the Opening of Society of Petroleum Engineers or SPE Applied Technology Workshop for Asset Revitalisation Through Technology Innovation For Economically Valuable Solutions this morning.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang kaya Seri Dewa Retired Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad said that besides technology innovation it is also imperative in developing human capacity in oil and gas sector particularly in areas considered to be 'hot-skills'. Hence, from the workshop, it will provide the avenue for the sharing of new and innovative ideas to make the petroleum industry more competitive and progressive. This will directly assist in the industry ability in increasing efficiency which will enable more oil and gas to be recovered from areas that were once thought to be not easy to produce technically and economically as well as facilitate the development of challenging deep water areas. He further added, that at the same time it is important to note that fossil fuels are finite resources and alternate energy sources will still only contribute a small percentage of total global energy demand.
The three-day event attracted more than 45 participants representing 13 oil companies, service providers and government bodies from eight countries including Brunei Darussalam, China, Indonesia, Italy, Kuwait, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and the United States. It is a platform to provide excellent networking opportunities for sharing of the latest technologies, its deployment, best practices and fit for purpose techniques focused upon revitalising assets through the interactive sessions.
