Brunei Darussalam starts the fasting in Ramadhan today. Tonight the sounds of Tarawih and witir prayers echoed from all mosques, surau and religious halls in the country. The prayers were followed by the reading of Al-Quran in the Tadarus as the congregants continued to glorify the Ramadhan night.
The blessed month of Ramadhan was welcomed with the firing of 12 cannon shots at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital yesterday. The cannons were fired by personnel of the Military Police of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, RBAF. The cannons are also fired everyday at Maghrib during the holy month, to signal the time for breaking the fast and Maghrib prayer, and once again at midnight to signal the time for Sahur or the post-midnight meal.
