Muslims in Brunei Darussalam start to observe the fast yesterday. Last night, the Sunat Tarawih prayer was performed at all mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide. In the capital, the Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Mosque, was among the focus of the sunat tarawih prayer.
Among the congregants was Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs. The mass tarawih prayer which is held every night throughout the blessed month of Ramadan is solely with the intention of becoming closer to Allah Subhanahu Wataala. Islam encourages its ummah to enliven the nights of Ramadan by increasing the reading of Al-Qur'an, sunat Tarawih prayer, wirid, witir, zikir, selawat or praises and istighfar, as during Ramadan, Allah bestows to the ummah of Prophet Muhammad Salallahu 'Alaihi Wassalam a night that is much better than one thousand months known as Lailatul qadar. Also present was Pengiran Dato SERI Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.
