The holy month of Ramadhan is the best time to train the spirit or the soul to do good deeds and endear oneself to Allah the Almighty. During the month, Muslims are obligated not only to refrain from eating and drinking during the day but also from acts of lust. Apart from that Muslims are also encouraged to multiply their sunnat or commendable acts in Ramadhan because the rewards are much more than during other times. The matter was the highlight of the Khutbah Jumaat or Friday sermon titled "Deeds Encouraged during Ramadhan."
The imam or prayer leader said among acts to be done during Ramadhan are the sahur or pre-dawn meal, give sadaqah or alms because the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalam gave sadaqah, especially during the fasting month. The amount involved in the charitable act is irrelevant. Another act is reading al-Quran because Ramadhan is the month of al-Quran. Other acts include breaking the fast as soon as possible and giving food to the people who fast and performing Tarawih and Witir prayers, especially in congregation at the mosques, surau, religious halls an even at home. The prayer leader said these deeds are done as a way to enliven and glorify the holy month.
