His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday went to the Ar-Rahim Mosque in Kampung Bukit Panggal, Tutong to perform the first Friday prayer at the new house of worship.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr.) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
After the welcoming ceremony, His Majesty was graciously invited to the mosque's lobby area and signed a plaque, as the call of Takbir echoed 3 times, led by the Minister of Religious Affairs.
Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
The first Azan or prayer call for Friday prayer at the mosque was performed by Awang Haji Hasmali bin Haji Talip, the Imam of the mosque.
Yang Di-Muliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin delivered the first Khutbah or sermon at the house of worship. Among other things, the sermon touched the rewards promised by Allah the Almighty to people who donate or contribute to the construction of a mosque. Yang DiMuliakan highlighted His Majesty's leadership which places the highest priority to religion and His Majesty's royal order to establish the Mosque Construction Fund during the National Al-Quran Reading Musabaqah for Adults 1436 Hijrah/2015. Up to last month, the fund has collected more than 8 million dollars.
The Friday prayer was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar.
The foundation pillar of the mosque was erected on 15 May 2018. Built on a 5 acres site at the cost of 3 million dollars the mosque is the second one constructed with funds from the Brunei Darussalam Mosque Construction Fund.
Before departing from the mosque His Majesty and His Majesty's sons received the junjung ziarah from the congregants.
