His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday afternoon attended the Tahlil Ceremony for His Majesty's late parents, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit. The ceremony took place at the Royal Mausoleum in the capital.

 

Upon arriving, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara; Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia  Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs and Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs. 

 

Also present were His Majesty's sons and brothers, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince;

 

His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;

His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen;

His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel;

His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah;

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah and other members of the Royal Family.

 

The ceremony began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr. Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

 

It continued with the reading of Tahlil, Doa Tahlil and Doa Selamat led by the State Mufti.

 

His Majesty then poured ayeng asah-asahan or scented water on the tombs of His Majesty's late parents. Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien passed away on the 3rd of Muharram of 1407 Hijrah corresponding to 7th September 1986 while Al-Marhumah Duli  Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit passed away on the 20th of Syawal of 1399 Hijrah corresponding to 13th September 1979.

 

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince also poured ayeng asah-asahan on the tombs of Al- Marhum and Al- Marhumah.

 

This was followed by His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;

His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen;

His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel;

His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; 

 

And His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah. Al- Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Khairi Waddien was proclaimed as the 28th Sultan of Brunei Darussalam after Al-Marhum's older brother, Al- Marhum Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Akhazul Khairi Waddin passed away in 1950. Al-Marhum was a loving and far sighted Monarch. Among the historic achievements or milestones of Al-Marhum's reign were the Brunei Constitution, education, religious, defence and communications policies as well as the welfare and well-being of the country's citizens and residents.

 

Also in attendance were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Yang Berhormat Cabinet Ministers, Members of Council, Deputy Ministers, Pengiran- Pengiran Peranakkan, Pehin-Pehin Manteri, Manteri-Manteri Hulubalang and Manteri-Manteri Pedalaman, Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries.
