The long distance cycling championship from Kuala Belait to Bandar Seri was among the best races in the 60's and 70's that was popular among local cyclists. Now the championship has been given a new lease of life and is now known as the Brunei Classic.
Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Ali Yil Kabier bin Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz, President of the Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation flagged off the race for the Elite and Masters categories. Over 450 locals and foreign cyclists took part in the race that began at Taman Jubli in Kuala Belait and ended at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
The race route was divided into two, namely the 157 kilometres for Elite and Masters Categories; and the 109-kilometre route for the women and veterans categories. Apart from that, the 'Cycling For All' category or CYFORA was also held, covering a 109-kilometre route.
The event ended with the prize presentation to the winners. The Brunei Classic was organised by the Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation and 'Turn to Cycles' with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
