Over 500 participants took part in the inaugural Brunei Run 2020, one of the first major events of this year. Participants included more than 300 volunteers, police personnel and medical staff. The event was held at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien in the capital.
The event began with an aerobic session. The men's and women's 10-kilometre and 5-kilometre run were flagged off by Pengiran Mohammad Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. Also present were Retired Major Talip bin Haji Mohd Tahir, President of Brunei Darussalam Athletics Federation and Pengiran Rosnani binti Pengiran Ali, Project Manager for Brunei Run 2020 from AKIF media marketing & event.
Both categories began and ended at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien. The event in partnership with McDonald's Brunei was supported by Brunei Darussalam Athletics Federation.
Prizes were presented by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. Awang Md Khairul Anuar bin Ramli and Siaw Khim Tho emerged champions in the 10 kilometre run category for men and women respectively. Meanwhile winners of the 5 kilometre category were Awang Md Syazwi Iman bin Haji Zulkifli and Chloe Clarke. The objective of the event is to support the United Nations' International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.
