Several areas in the Belait District namely Kampung Sungai Mau, Jalan Laid Lakang, Jalan Kandul, Kampung Merangking Hilir, and Kampung Sukang are still inundated by floods. According to the Belait District Disaster Management Committee, DDMC, reports received since yesterday involved 23 houses and 105 village residents. In taking a closer look at the flood-affected areas in the Belait District, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs as the Chairman of the National Disaster Council made a working visit to the affected areas yesterday afternoon.
Before taking a look at the flood-affected areas, Yang Berhormat was briefed on the latest status and actions taken by the government agencies at the affected areas. The working visit to Belait was a continuation to the Minister of Home Affairs' visit to flood-affected areas in Tutong District yesterday with district officers as the Chairmen of DDMC acting as joint coordinators at the district level.
The Belait DDMC has taken a number of actions in mitigating the floods by monitoring the water levels daily through the Fire and rescue Department, Operation B, Belait Branch from the 25th of June. Apart from that, the Community Development Department, JAPEM has also distributed food packs to the village residents affected. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Centre has also supplied logistic requirements to facilitate the affected residents.
