Brunei Darussalam celebrates Hari Raya Aidiladha with the takbir raya and tahmid resounding throughout the country. The celebration begins with the Sunat Hari Raya Aidiladha prayer at all mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam joined his subjects in performing the Sunat Hari Raya Aidiladha prayer at Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampung Kiarong, yesterday morning.
Upon arrival, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs, as the Co-Advisor as well as other Co-Advisors and the members of the ceremony's Executive Committee.
Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien.
The Sunat Hari Raya Aidil Adha prayer was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
Yang Dimuliakan Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mustafa bin Haji Murat in the first khutbah or sermon among other matters touched on a number of blessings despite the COVID-19 pandemic among them raising awareness on cleanliness, family institutions becoming stronger and closer, instilling praiseworthy behaviour and helping one another among the society and cultivating loyalty and adherence to regulations. The sermon also urged Muslims to continue to be cautious, and not to be negligent or careless in maintaining the interests and safety of oneself, the family, society as well as the country. Aside from that, we should increase supplications so that the monarch, ourselves, family members as well as the citizens and residents of the country will always be safeguarded from the threat of COVID-19. It is hoped this year's Hari Raya Aidil Adha will bring about blessings and well-being to us all.
The second khutbah explained that performing the qurban or sacrificial rites is sunat muakad which is sunat that is truly required and encouraged on Muslims who wish to perform it, starting from 10th Zulhijjah after the sunat Hari Raya Aidil Adha prayer until the 13th of Zulhijjah. As at this time, measures to control the spread of COVID-19 is still being enforced, thus, we must follow the guidelines stipulated based on the advice from the Ministry of Health. Adherence to the guidelines is vital, as there is still a concern about the dangers of the COVID-19 infection in the country.
This year the country celebrates Hari Raya Aidil Adha slightly differently than the previous years. As there is still a worry about the dangers of COVID-19, the country is celebrating using the new norms. However, the country's citizens and residents should be grateful as by the grace of Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala, the country has been able to effectively bring the spread of the pandemic under control through concerted efforts and supplications.
