13/08/2020  Additional Reduction of Social Distancing Measures starts on 17 August 2020



By the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, by taking into account the COVID-19 situation in the country that is under control, the Minister of Health announced on additional reduction of social distancing measures starting on Monday, the 17th of August 2020.


According to the Minister of Health, operational readiness for Arcades and Indoor as well as Outdoor Playground will be increased from Level 1 to Level 2. Yang Berhormat also announced on the escalation for the following activities from Level 2 to Level 3. They are swimming pool; cinemas; senior citizen activity centre; and mass gathering. Internet cafe activities will be maintained at Level 3. The Minister then stated on the escalation from Level 3 to Level 4 for the following activities: special needs classes; child care centres; and museums, galleries and libraries.


Meanwhile, activities that are maintained at Level 4 include mosques, surau and religious halls; other places of worship besides mosques and surau; schools; technical, vocational and higher education; tuition and music schools; driving schools; gym and fitness centre; indoor and outdoor sports facilities; golf; restaurants, cafes and food court; and stalls and market.


Yang Berhormat then explained on the conditions of reduction of social distancing measures for specific activities. Starting on the 17th of August 2020, mass gatherings are allowed of not more than 200 people only. Members of the public can refer to the details of the conditions in the guideline for mass gathering Level 3 that will be uploaded at the Ministry of Health's website. Arcades and indoor as well as outdoor playgrounds are allowed to operate at a 60 per cent capacity at any one time. The guideline can also be found at the ministry's website.
