Islam encourages its wealthy ummah or followers to give endowments for building mosques. Wakaf or endowments are contributions given for the benefit and use of the public and the act is among ways to reap the blessings and favour of Allah the Almighty. As long as the Wakaf or endowment exists and benefits society or the people, the blessings will continue even after the donors have passed away. Today's Khutbah or Friday sermon explained the cost of building a mosque is expensive and not many can afford it. However, the country's citizens and residents should be thankful that His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to the establishment of a Mosque Construction Fund in Brunei Darussalam.
In the sermon, the prayer leaders reminded the congregants that the Short Message Service or SMS for the fund has been opened for 45 days, starting from the 6th of December 2017 until 19th January 2018. The fund will be the platform for the ummah's investment in the next world, providing Muslims with a way to channel their contributions in the name of Allah the Almighty in order to gain the blessings and rewards of Allah the Creator. The Imams or prayer leaders added donations to the fund would be used to build new mosques as well as renovate and repair existing ones.
