Touching on the telecommunications services which include connections for home phones, internet and mobile phone signals that cannot be received well by some residents, the Minister of Communications urged telecommunications operator companies to provide the relevant telecommunications facilities considering that this service has been privatised.
Yang Berhormat said several service providers or telecommunications operator companies such as TelBru, DST and PCSB have been working to provide these services to places or areas which are not yet equipped with Fibre To The Home. According to Yang Berhormat, there are two approaches currently under consideration. First is for the government to provide the budget allocation, or secondly, by asking these companies to further intensify their efforts to provide these telephone services. Considering that ICT is seen as Public goods, Yang Berhormat said it is important to ensure accessibility and avoid exclusion so that people from all levels of society, including those living in rural areas, can enjoy these facilities.
