'Mule Account' Cases, Online Fraud Crimes IncreasesOnline fraud cases involving the use of 'mule accounts' have increased significantly in the first four months of this year. The Royal Brunei Police Force announced that from January to April 2026, it has received an increase in reports related to online fraud cases using individual bank accounts for the purpose of transferring and hiding criminal proceeds. The accounts were rented or handed over by their owners to third parties without being aware of the serious legal implications. The estimated total losses reported for the period exceeded One Million Brunei dollars, thus demonstrating the seriousness of the threat the crime poses to society and the country's economy.
